Downtown YMCA Updates: September 14th

Here’s what’s going on at the Downtown Y:

Capital Law School: The YMCA of Central Ohio was chosen as the Class of 2014 Hall of Honor Inductee. We will be publicly recognized on Thursday, October 23rd. In 1903, the Downtown YMCA began a law program – later to become Capital Law.

Busting at the Seams: Van Buren reached an all time high this week with 194 women (capacity 107) and 68 families (190 individuals). A lot of need – glad we can provide a moment of hope.

New Director of Member Impact: Friday wrapped up Joel’s eight year career at the YMCA. We are excited for his next journey. On October 1st, Jean Fry will be joining our team. She’s the Wellness Director at the Delaware Branch and has done an amazing job revamping their wellness approach. I’ve also worked with her on the Wellness Innovation Team for the last four years – a very hard working young lady.

New Associate Aquatics Director: Brian Gill will also be joining our team early October. He’s currently working at Disney Resorts in Florida as a part of their Recreation Team. He has a background in risk management training and life guarding.

Our Towels Are Yellow: This idea comes to us from our very own Jon Philbrick (thank you!). We have died our towels yellow to promote our Ridestrong event in November. Our goal is to raise $12,000 to support our Livestrong program at the Y. We are also hopeful it will slow down our theft problem – who wants a yellow towel anyway?

Let’s get ready to start another wonderful week!

Reminder: Next Board Meeting is Thursday, September 25th at noon.
